July 2017 saw Kingsgate Nutrition on tour in Brittany, with producers, to learn all about macro algae, commonly called seaweed. We were kindly looked after by Olmix who produce a range of products utilising seaweed to improve animal production and health. The Breiz Algae School hosted us for presentations by Julia Laurain and Sylvain David on mechanisms and actions of macro algae. Being based so close to the Roscoff Marine Centre allows excellent development of knowledge and ideas to perpetuate not only the animal sector but also the human sector with utilisation of seaweed.
The main things our group learnt on the study tour was how far along the road to utilisisng seaweed we are and how readily available the product is on a highly sustainable basis.
